| At first the temperature stopped rising, then it began to get cooler. Shimmering mirages gave way to a clear horizon and then the colours started to change, darken. The sky to the north east blackened as if a storm was gathering, but it remained crystal clear. Then suddenly a dark shadow raced toward us. Totality. Mercury and Venus now could been seen shining brightly and the magnificent flares of the corona stood out from the dark disc of the moon - then it was all over. | |
